Areas of Expertise

Leadership Development, Strategic Planning and Evaluation, Governance

Peter Taylor

My expertise in nonprofit strategy, organizational development, and governance is rooted in hands-on leadership—as a CEO guiding a growing organization, as a board chair of statewide organizations in the midst of executive transitions, and as a foundation vice president who designed and delivered impactful capacity-building programs. These varied perspectives allow me to work effectively with executive teams and boards to assess challenges and apply best practices that improve effectiveness.

I bring to each engagement over 30 years of leadership in philanthropy, nonprofit management, and higher education. As president of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (BTCF), I led its evolution from a primarily donor-directed organization into a civic leadership institution—driven by stakeholder-informed planning, deeper donor engagement, and a more agile operating model. During my tenure, BTCF’s assets grew by more than $110 million, and its annual grantmaking, fundraising, and operating budget more than doubled.

My governance experience includes serving as board chair of Philanthropy Massachusetts and the Maine Philanthropy Center, as well as Governance Committee chair for Philanthropy Massachusetts. I have also served on the boards of the Maine Association of Nonprofits and the Maine Commission for Community Service.

I approach consulting with a strengths-based mindset, believing that successful outcomes emerge from the talents of organizational leaders and the communities they serve. Clients include Child Find of America in New Paltz, NY; Tech Foundry, a workforce development organization in Springfield, MA; and Saint James Place, a cultural and community hub in Great Barrington, MA.
